These photos were taken in and around Ladd’s Addition, which is an inner southeast neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, United States. Ladd’s Addition is part of the Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood. See Hosford-Abernethy boundary map . Ladd’s Addition is Portland’s oldest planned residential development. The neighborhood is known in Portland for a diagonal street pattern, which is atypical of the Portland central city area. It is bordered by SE Hawthorne, Division, 12th, and 20th streets.
The neighborhood is named after William S. Ladd, a former Portland mayor, who also once owned most of the property that is now known as Laurelhurst. Ladd’s Addition was subdivided for residential use in 1891. Most of the houses in Ladd’s Addition were built between 1905 and 1930. As of early 2024, the median home price in this neighborhood was around $840,000.
