Mount Tabor

Mount Tabor

– Mount Tabor –

Prior to becoming part of Portland in 1905, Mount Tabor was a rural farming community with roots in the 1850s. This southeast Portland neighborhood is best known for Mount Tabor Park, which sits atop a volcanic cinder cone. The park is home to a water reservoir, fed by the Bull Run watershed.  The reservoir supplies water to much of Portland.

Architectural styles include a handful of Prairie and Bungalow houses and an abundance of Victorian and other revival styles.  The neighborhood is bordered by the Sunnyside, Center, Montavilla, South Tabor and Richmond neighborhoods.  See the boundaries for the Mt. Tabor neighborhood on this Mount Tabor boundary map from the City of Portland.

There are many great shops, coffee houses, and restaurants to visit nearby, including the delicious Stark Street Pizza that has been around since 1965.  Especially along SE Stark Street, west of 82nd street, in the Montavilla neighborhood.
