– Mount Tabor –
Prior to becoming part of Portland in 1905, Mount Tabor was a rural farming community with roots in the 1850s. This southeast Portland neighborhood is best known for Mount Tabor Park, which sits atop an extinct volcanic cinder cone. The park is home to a water reservoir, supplied by the Bull Run watershed. The reservoirs, built between 1894 and 1911, supply water to much of Portland. The Mount Tabor reservoirs were built during the period of 1894 and 1911, along with reservoirs
Architectural styles in the Mount Tabor area include a handful of Prairie and Bungalow houses as well as an abundance of Victorian and other revival styles. The neighborhood is bordered by the Sunnyside, Center, Montavilla, South Tabor and Richmond neighborhoods. See the boundaries for the Mt. Tabor neighborhood on this Mount Tabor boundary map from the City of Portland.
There are many great shops, coffee houses, and restaurants to visit nearby, including the delicious Stark Street Pizza that has been around since 1965. Especially along SE Stark Street, west of 82nd street, in the Montavilla neighborhood. This area has significantly improved over the last several years and has become quite popular.
